Imaginary Once Again

Dear Friends,

As some of you may know by now, Rory Mulligan & The Imaginary Band will soon be no more. We feel that creatively we've achieved all we can together and sadly, now is the time to let it lie and move on to other things.
We want to thank all of you for supporting us, listening to our music, coming to our gigs, and inspiring us to play.
As a parting gift we will be giving you all a free download of our last recording together, 'Lester Swings/Lately'. A very small run of hand-printed CDs will also be available, more on these soon...

Recording, Feb. 2011

Well...

We've just finished recording two tracks at our under-water lair in Brighton. Having spent the last three Sunday nights locked away, we've emerged with good material to begin mixing. Our main goal was to produce and release something which represented the live sound and energy of our performances; something we could use to promote and grow the band.

With our wonderful engineer/co-producer troll Jack Childs at the controls we recorded the whole band play the two tracks live first. From these recordings we kept only the drum recordings, overdubbing the other instruments and vocals later

We took a lot of time getting the drum sound right, so this took up the whole first session, but definitely worth

it.

The second session saw Josh & Emily laying down their parts. We even snuck in a few extra violins and a piano on the intro to one track. Tasty. 

In the final session we finished off the bass and completed the guitar and vocal takes

Rose Hill Tavern 4th March

Our first gig back after a short hiatus is at the Rose Hill Tavern this Friday night with support from Vitek. Entry is free!

We've missed your faces, so we're looking forward to a reet-good stomp with you this weekend. Whoop!

2011

Well we've been out of the loop for a while, and after a break over Christmas to gather ourselves, the Imaginary Band Wagon is back on track, with this beautiful new blog. Here we'll keep you updated on all Imaginary goings-on, goings-out, and goings-and-comings.

So here's a little update of what we're up to RIGHT NOW!

• Firstly, a bitter-sweet titbit. We want to congratulate sax player Gavin and his lovely wife Helen on the new addition to their growing family, and wish them much happiness and wholesomeness. Unfortunately for the band, this means Gavin's had to step back from Imaginary life. He brought the Spirit of Jazz, and it will stay with us.

• ...And then there were 4. So we've retreated to a secret underground lair for some writing and recording through February (about which you will surely find updates here when they arise). It appears our first gig back will be in the first week of March, so stay tuned...
